Just one day after areas of Bexar County experienced photogenic snow, another winter surprise could be in store for the Alamo City late tonight — freezing fog.

San Antonio temperatures could drop below freezing in the low 30s around midnight tonight and stay through Tuesday morning. This is one factor allowing for a hard freeze to occur. Temps will also drop close to the dew point temperatures producing fog development, another factor needed. So what does this mean?

Since fog is made up of liquid water droplets, it has the ability to freeze instantly on any exposed surface, be it outdoor stairs, rails, cars, and or tree branches, that are at or below freezing.

Freezing fog can also be a problem for those driving on roadways as it can cause black ice. Therefore, use caution and reduce speed when driving late tonight and early Tuesday morning around 6 a.m.

Expect freezing conditions in the low 30s through 9 a.m. Tuesday morning and high temps to reach the low 50s by the afternoon.
