Søren Wærenskjold Wins Record-Breaking Tour de France Stage
Norwegian cyclist Søren Wærenskjold delivered one of the biggest surprises of the Tour de France by winning Wednesday’s Stage 11 sprint in Nevers.
The victory came one day after Wærenskjold finished last during the mountainous Stage 10 route to Le Lioran. He responded by launching a long sprint and narrowly defeating Olav Kooij, with Jasper Philipsen finishing third.
The 161.3-kilometer stage from Vichy was completed at an average speed of approximately 50.9 kilometers per hour, making it the fastest road stage in Tour de France history.
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar finished safely in the main group and retained the yellow jersey. There were no major changes among the leading general-classification contenders.
British Open Prepares for Firm and Fast Royal Birkdale
The 154th Open Championship begins Thursday at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England, where unusually dry conditions are expected to create a demanding links-golf test.
Tournament organizers described the course as fast and firm, meaning drives could travel farther along baked fairways while approach shots may become difficult to control on hard greens.
The R&A is also considering moving Sunday’s final-round tee times earlier should England defeat Argentina and advance to the World Cup final. The final putts at the Open would normally fall shortly before the scheduled start of the soccer championship.
No schedule change has been approved, and organizers said they will review the situation following Wednesday’s semifinal. Approximately 300,000 spectators are expected to attend the Open throughout the week.
WNBA Legends Set to Draft All-Star Teams
WNBA history will help shape the league’s 2026 All-Star rosters Wednesday afternoon.
Hall of Famers Cynthia Cooper and Teresa Weatherspoon will select the two teams during the WNBA All-Star Draft, airing from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Central Time on ESPN.
Malika Andrews will host the selection show from Los Angeles. The All-Star Game will be played July 25 at the United Center in Chicago and broadcast on ABC and Disney+.
The draft adds a strategic wrinkle to the celebration. Rather than relying strictly on conference affiliations, the legends will build their own combinations of established stars and emerging talent.
Cowboys Defender Charles Snowden Suspended
The NFL has suspended Dallas Cowboys defensive end Charles Snowden for the first three games of the 2026 regular season for violating the league’s personal-conduct policy.
The suspension relates to a December 2024 DUI arrest that occurred while Snowden was playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. He later entered a no-contest plea and was ordered to pay a fine and complete educational courses.
Snowden signed a one-year contract with Dallas in June. He can participate in training camp and preseason games, but his suspension will begin when teams reduce their rosters to 53 players.
The Cowboys are scheduled to open their season September 13 against the New York Giants. Their first three games also include matchups with Washington and Baltimore.
