Djokovic Stunned in First Round of U.S. Open
One of the biggest stories of the day comes from New York.
Novak Djokovic is out of the 2026 U.S. Open.
The 39-year-old lost a five-set first-round match to unseeded Argentine Mariano Navone, ending Djokovic's attempt to capture a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam singles championship.
Djokovic dealt with physical problems throughout the match, including shoulder and back discomfort, while Navone pulled off one of the tournament's biggest upsets. It represents Djokovic's earliest Grand Slam exit in more than two decades.
Elsewhere, Daniil Medvedev and American Jessica Pegula advanced, while Sofia Kenin defeated 46-year-old Venus Williams in Williams' 26th U.S. Open appearance.

U.S. Open Action Continues Today
Day 2 continues Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Arthur Ashe Stadium action is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. Central / 11:30 a.m. Eastern, with matches continuing throughout the day and evening.

Before the WNBA entered its international break, Angel Reese added another record to her résumé.
Reese recorded her 29th double-double of the season, establishing a new WNBA single-season record as the Atlanta Dream defeated the league-leading Minnesota Lynx 89-81 Sunday.
Allisha Gray finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds for Atlanta, while Reese contributed 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Atlanta improved to 26-14, while Minnesota sits atop the Western Conference at 31-9.
WNBA Takes Two-Week World Cup Break
There won't be WNBA games over the next couple of weeks.
The league has paused regular-season play from August 31 through September 16 for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
WNBA play resumes September 17.
