Sports Report: Brewers Make History, Fever Stay Hot & NFL Preseason Continues
Wednesday, August 19, 2026
Tuesday delivered a wild night across American sports. The Milwaukee Brewers produced one of baseball’s most lopsided shutouts in generations, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever extended their winning streak, the Atlanta Dream made a statement against Las Vegas, and NFL teams continued preparing for another round of preseason action.
Here’s what happened yesterday and what sports fans should watch next.
Brewers Destroy Mariners 22-0 in Historic Blowout
There are blowouts, and then there’s 22-0.
Milwaukee demolished Seattle on Tuesday night, scoring 22 runs while holding the Mariners scoreless. The 22 runs tied the Brewers’ franchise record and produced the largest margin of victory in team history. MLB also noted that it was tied for the most lopsided shutout in the majors since 1887.
Garrett Mitchell went 4-for-6 with four singles as Milwaukee’s offense simply refused to stop scoring.
That result easily takes the crown as Tuesday’s most eye-popping score.

Caitlin Clark and Fever Win Fifth Straight
The Indiana Fever continue to build momentum.
Kelsey Mitchell scored 29 points and Caitlin Clark added 24 points as Indiana defeated the expansion Toronto Tempo 101-95 Tuesday night. It was the Fever’s fifth consecutive victory.
Mitchell did not play in the fourth quarter after becoming overheated, according to coach Stephanie White.
Indiana improved to 24-12 with the victory.
With the postseason approaching, Indiana is beginning to look increasingly dangerous.
WNBA Final Scores From Tuesday
The WNBA had four games Tuesday night.
- Connecticut Sun 85, Los Angeles Sparks 77
- Indiana Fever 101, Toronto Tempo 95
- Chicago Sky 93, New York Liberty 86
- Atlanta Dream 97, Las Vegas Aces 82
Atlanta's 97-82 victory was particularly notable. The Dream overcame Las Vegas after the opening quarter and handed the Aces their second consecutive loss.
Meanwhile, Chicago knocked off New York behind a strong offensive performance, giving the Sky another significant late-season victory.
San Francisco Lands the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game
The WNBA also announced Tuesday that San Francisco will host the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game.
The game is scheduled for July 31, 2027 at Chase Center, home of the Golden State Valkyries. It will be the first WNBA All-Star Game held in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The announcement is another major milestone for the Valkyries, who have quickly developed one of the league’s strongest fan bases since entering the WNBA.
NFL: Breece Hall Expected to Miss 2-3 Weeks
NFL preseason injury news is beginning to matter as teams move closer to Week 1.
New York Jets running back Breece Hall is expected to miss two to three weeks because of a groin strain, although coach Aaron Glenn expects him to be available for the regular-season opener against Tennessee.
For New York, the encouraging part is that the injury currently does not appear likely to cost Hall meaningful regular-season time.
Games to Watch Wednesday, August 19
Baseball dominates Wednesday’s schedule with another packed MLB slate.
Some notable matchups include:
- Tigers at Pirates
- Padres at Mets
- Braves at Twins
- White Sox at Cubs
- Diamondbacks at Red Sox
- Yankees at Orioles
- Blue Jays at Rays
- Giants at Guardians
- Athletics at Royals
- Mariners at Brewers
- Nationals at Rangers

One obvious storyline: How does Seattle respond after losing 22-0?
That's the baseball equivalent of walking back into the office after accidentally hitting “reply all” to the entire company. 😭
WNBA Games Tonight
Two WNBA games are on Wednesday’s schedule.
Toronto Tempo at Washington Mystics
6:30 p.m. Central
Minnesota Lynx at Golden State Valkyries

The Minnesota-Golden State matchup is especially intriguing. The Valkyries entered this week among the WNBA's strongest teams, and the organization is celebrating Tuesday’s announcement that San Francisco will host next year's All-Star Game.
NFL Preseason Returns Thursday
NFL preseason Week 2 gets underway Thursday, August 20.
Las Vegas Raiders at Houston Texans
7:00 p.m. Central
ESPN
San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Chargers
9:00 p.m. Central
Friday and Saturday will bring another large slate of preseason games as coaches continue evaluating quarterbacks, rookies, roster battles and bubble players before final roster decisions.
What We're Watching
Three stories stand out entering Wednesday.
First, Milwaukee’s historic 22-0 victory instantly becomes one of the signature baseball scores of the 2026 season.
Second, Indiana has quietly become one of the WNBA’s hottest teams. Five consecutive victories and another strong Caitlin Clark performance mean the Fever are building momentum at exactly the right time.
And finally, NFL preseason football is about to accelerate. The scores themselves may not count in the standings, but injuries, quarterback competitions and roster decisions absolutely matter.
August is where the sports calendar begins waking up.
Baseball is pushing toward September.
The WNBA playoff race is tightening.
And football is almost back for real.
