The NBA has reportedly opened an investigation into Gary Trent Jr.’s new four-year, $64 million agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Investigators are examining whether Trent and the Bucks had an unauthorized prior agreement concerning his future compensation.
Trent initially signed with Milwaukee for the league minimum in 2024 before accepting a two-year, $7.5 million contract in 2025. Those earlier deals allowed Milwaukee to acquire his Early Bird rights, creating a pathway for the Bucks to re-sign him for a significantly larger amount despite operating above the salary cap.
The league will reportedly examine whether Trent accepted below-market compensation in exchange for an understanding that Milwaukee would reward him with a larger contract once it obtained the necessary rights.
An investigation does not mean the Bucks or Trent violated league rules. If evidence of a prohibited agreement is uncovered, however, possible penalties could include fines, lost draft picks, suspensions or action against the contract. Reuters

Liberty-Wings game postponed after charter trouble
Thursday night’s WNBA matchup between the New York Liberty and Dallas Wings was postponed after mechanical problems disrupted the Liberty’s charter flight.
The league rescheduled the game for Monday in Dallas.
