The Friday Reset: What to Do This Weekend in San Antonio, Across Texas & Around America

August 14–16, 2026

The headlines can wait a minute. It’s Friday. 🌆🎶🌮

The laptop can close, the group chat can finally decide on something, and there are plenty of reasons to get out of the house this weekend.

From live music and Restaurant Weeks in San Antonio to a Hill Country dance hall night, a historic Texas tall ship returning home, hot-air balloons in Arkansas, Elvis Week in Memphis and a massive food-truck gathering in Ohio, this weekend has range.

Welcome to The Friday Reset, our guide to interesting things happening around San Antonio, across Texas and around America.

Event schedules can change. Check organizers before heading out. Times below are local to each event.

🌆 SAN ANTONIO: Start Here

Eat Your Way Through San Antonio Restaurant Weeks

If your Friday plan begins with the question, “Where are we eating?”, San Antonio has conveniently turned that into an entire event.

Culinaria's San Antonio Restaurant Weeks: Summer Edition runs August 8 through August 29 this year, giving diners three weeks to try special prix-fixe menus at participating restaurants across the city.

It's an easy weekend move for couples, families or friends who want to try somewhere new without turning dinner into a research project worthy of NASA.

Friday Reset pick: Choose a restaurant you've never visited rather than automatically returning to the usual spot. That's half the fun.

🎶 Hermanos Espinoza Bring the LINAJE Tour to Freeman Coliseum

Friday night belongs to regional Mexican music fans.

Hermanos Espinoza perform at Freeman Coliseum tonight, August 14, at 8 p.m. as part of the duo's LINAJE Tour. Both Freeman Coliseum and Ticketmaster list the San Antonio date.

That's one of the city's bigger concert options for anyone looking to go straight from Friday afternoon into full weekend mode.

🎨 Frida Fest Wants to Make History

Saturday brings one of the most uniquely San Antonio events of the weekend.

The 10th annual Frida Fest is scheduled for August 15–16 at Wonderland of the Americas. The free celebration of Frida Kahlo features art, performances, vendors, fashion and plenty of floral crowns.

But this year organizers are adding something bigger: an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo, scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday.

That earns our Wild Card Pick of the Weekend. Even if you don't participate, seeing a mall fill with hundreds of Fridas is not exactly your average Saturday errand.

🕺 Freestyle Explosion Takes Over Frost Bank Center

If your playlist knows its way around freestyle music, Saturday night has another option.

Freestyle Explosion comes to Frost Bank Center on August 15. Visit San Antonio lists it among the city's major August performances.

It's a strong nostalgia-night option and another reminder that San Antonio's weekend music menu refuses to stick to one genre.

🌊 AquaGlow Turns the Water Park Into a Nighttime Party

Families looking for something different can also check out AquaGlow at SeaWorld San Antonio's Aquatica on Saturday, August 15, an after-dark water-park experience listed on Visit San Antonio's current event calendar.

Considering the weather forecast, water may be one of the smartest supporting characters in the entire weekend.

🛍️ Slow Sunday at Pearl

After Friday night and Saturday adventures, Sunday can be considerably more civilized.

The Pearl Makers Market is scheduled Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., bringing local makers and small businesses to Pearl.

Grab coffee, browse, eat something good and pretend Monday isn't standing outside the door yet.

☀️ BEFORE YOU GO: SAN ANTONIO IS GOING TO BE HOT

And by hot, we mean Texas has once again placed the thermostat in witness protection.

San Antonio's forecast calls for a high near 97°F Friday, 103°F Saturday and 101°F Sunday. Saturday and Sunday carry an elevated risk of dehydration and heat-related illness with prolonged outdoor exposure.

Plan accordingly: water, sunscreen, shade, lighter clothing and indoor breaks are not optional accessories this weekend.

There is also a traffic wrinkle. Major construction closures are planned around I-10 and Loop 1604 beginning Friday night and continuing into Monday morning, particularly affecting the area around La Cantera, The Rim, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and UTSA.

Translation: leave earlier than your GPS thinks you should.

🚗 TEXAS: WORTH THE DRIVE

New Braunfels: Hudson Westbrook at Whitewater Amphitheater

You don't have to go far to turn Friday into a road trip.

Hudson Westbrook is scheduled at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels on August 14 and 15. Visit New Braunfels also lists Friday Afternoon Club at Gruene Hall and additional live music around town.

New Braunfels is close enough for a spontaneous run from San Antonio without needing luggage, airport security or an argument about who gets the hotel bed.

Worth-the-drive rating: 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

Fredericksburg: Dance Hall Night Under the Texas Sky

For something that feels aggressively Texas in the best possible way, head west.

The City of Fredericksburg is hosting Fredericksburg Dance Hall Night at Marktplatz on Saturday, August 15, from 7 to 11 p.m.

Fredericksburg's tourism calendar also lists a guided summit hike at Enchanted Rock on Saturday, giving ambitious visitors the option of hiking during the day and dancing at night.

Just remember the August heat before deciding you're suddenly Bear Grylls at 2 p.m.

Houston: Disco Night at Miller Outdoor Theatre

Houston has a free Friday-night option with serious throwback energy.

The H-Town Disco Show begins at 8 p.m. Friday at Miller Outdoor Theatre, featuring live performances built around classic 1970s disco music. The performance will also be livestreamed.

Saturday, Miller follows it with its annual Summer Mixtape, showcasing Houston artists across multiple genres.

That's a solid two-night music option without requiring arena-concert money.

Galveston: Texas' Historic Tall Ship Comes Home

One of the coolest Texas stories this weekend isn't a concert or festival.

The 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA, the Official Tall Ship of Texas, returns to Galveston Saturday after spending months representing Texas during America's 250th-anniversary maritime celebrations.

A public welcome is planned around the ship's return, with an evening homecoming reception following later Saturday.

Built in 1877, ELISSA is a restored square-rigged sailing ship and National Historic Landmark based at the Galveston Historic Seaport.

For history lovers, this might be the Texas event with the best story attached to it.

🇺🇸 AROUND AMERICA: WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND?

Now let's widen the lens.

🎈 Bentonville, Arkansas: SOAR NWA

Northwest Arkansas is filling the sky with hot-air balloons.

SOAR NWA runs August 14–15 from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Bentonville. The event combines hot-air balloons with family activities and serves as the largest annual fundraiser for Open Avenues, a nonprofit supporting adults with disabilities through employment and training programs.

Balloons glowing against an Arkansas sunset?

Yeah. That's Friday material.

👑 Memphis: Elvis Week Reaches Its Biggest Weekend

In Memphis, fans from around the world are gathering at Graceland for Elvis Week 2026, which runs August 8–16.

Friday features Elvis Presley in Concert Live, while Saturday brings one of the week's cornerstone traditions: the annual Candlelight Vigil at 8:30 p.m.

Whether you're an Elvis superfan or simply fascinated by American music history, few places will have more concentrated rock-and-roll energy this weekend than Memphis.

🌮 Columbus: More Than 40 Food Trucks Walk Into a Fairground...

That sounds like the beginning of a dangerous joke for anyone who arrived hungry.

The Columbus Food Truck Festival returns to the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Hilliard, Ohio, on August 14–15. Official tourism information says the event brings food trucks, live entertainment and vendors together for the weekend.

Current local coverage reports more than 40 food trucks are expected.

This is where "I'll just try one thing" goes to die.

🍽️ Los Angeles: Dine LA Begins Today

San Antonio isn't the only city turning August into a food tour.

Dine LA Restaurant Week begins Friday, August 14 and continues through August 28, with participating restaurants across Los Angeles offering special lunch and dinner menus at multiple price points.

Los Angeles also has KCON LA opening Friday, plus Al Green Friday night and additional concerts and entertainment through the weekend.

That's not a bad weekend to suddenly remember you have airline miles.

🎡 Indianapolis: The State Fair Is in Full Swing

The 169th Indiana State Fair continues this weekend in Indianapolis as part of its August 7–23 run.

Friday's schedule includes livestock competitions, demonstrations, a daily parade, circus performances and live entertainment, with additional programming continuing Saturday and Sunday.

State fairs remain one of America's great summer equalizers: agriculture, concerts, carnival rides and food inventions that probably required a waiver from a cardiologist.

The Weekend Is Yours

Not every weekend needs to become a vacation.

Sometimes the move is dinner somewhere new. Sometimes it's live music down the road. Sometimes it's wandering through an art festival, taking the family to a nighttime water park or deciding at 10 a.m. Saturday that Fredericksburg suddenly sounds like a brilliant idea.

And sometimes?

You drive all the way to Ohio because somebody said 40 food trucks.

We don't judge. 😂

That's the idea behind The Friday Reset: less doomscrolling, more discovering what's actually happening outside the screen.

San Antonio has something going on. Texas has roads worth taking. America has festivals, music, food, history and experiences happening in every direction.

It's Friday. Go make the weekend count.
