The federal lawsuit, originally filed in 2024, alleged that TikTok and predecessor Musical.ly collected information from children under 13 without proper parental consent and failed in some cases to delete accounts when requested.
Under the agreement, TikTok will pay $300 million immediately, with another $100 million tied to the removal of an earlier consent decree.
The settlement comes as Washington continues focusing on how social-media platforms handle young users, age verification, personal information and online safety.

Northwest Indiana Still Recovering From Deadly Storms

Communities including Gary, Indiana, continue recovering after powerful storms that began on August 11 brought damaging winds, flooding, fallen trees and widespread electrical outages.
Some residents have endured more than a week without electricity.
Indiana officials reported earlier this week that nearly 99,000 customers statewide remained without power, with the majority of outages concentrated in northwest Indiana. State officials have also reported seven storm-related deaths since the severe-weather system began.
In Gary, complete restoration for some residents may not occur until August 25.
The prolonged outage has created problems extending well beyond dark homes. Residents and businesses have struggled with spoiled food, lost revenue, limited phone charging, disrupted medical needs and extreme summer conditions.
The recovery is also renewing questions about electrical infrastructure, disaster preparedness and how quickly utilities can respond when major storms knock out large portions of the grid.
Inflation and Interest Rates Remain in Focus
The U.S. economy is entering another important week.
Federal Reserve meeting minutes released this week showed that many Fed officials believe higher interest rates could eventually be necessary if inflation remains stubbornly elevated.
