WNBA Roundup: Lynx Extend Winning Streak as Three Major Matchups Await Monday

The Minnesota Lynx continue to set the pace in the WNBA, but Sunday’s action showed that the league’s middle tier remains crowded, competitive and capable of producing fireworks.
Minnesota defeated the Indiana Fever 108-100 for its 10th consecutive victory. The Los Angeles Sparks survived a high-scoring battle against the Portland Fire, the Dallas Wings used a dominant third-quarter finish to defeat Connecticut, and the Golden State Valkyries pulled away from the Toronto Tempo.
Monday brings three more games, led by a matchup between the Las Vegas Aces and an Atlanta Dream team carrying a five-game winning streak. Seattle visits New York, while Phoenix meets Chicago following one of the busiest trade-deadline weekends in recent WNBA history.

The results moved Minnesota to 25-6, while Las Vegas and Golden State remained tied at 20-9 in the Western Conference standings. Dallas improved to 19-11. In the East, Indiana fell to 19-11, while Toronto and Connecticut remained near the bottom of the conference.
Lynx Win Their 10th Straight
The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Indiana Fever 108-100 at Target Center, extending the league’s longest active winning streak to 10 games.
Rookie Olivia Miles led Minnesota with 28 points, while Courtney Williams added 27. Their production helped Minnesota survive a major scoring performance from Indiana guard Kelsey Mitchell, who finished with 37 points.
The Fever entered Sunday having won five consecutive games, but Minnesota’s offensive balance proved difficult to contain. The Lynx improved to 25-6, strengthening their position at the top of the Western Conference and overall league standings. Indiana dropped to 19-11.
The victory also demonstrated why Minnesota has become such a difficult matchup. The Lynx can win through defensive pressure, but they also possess enough scoring depth to survive games in which an opposing star catches fire.
Indiana scored 100 points and received one of the strongest individual performances of the weekend. It still was not enough to interrupt Minnesota’s momentum.
Sparks Survive a Wild Finish in Portland
The Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Portland Fire 106-101 in one of Sunday’s most entertaining games.
Dearica Hamby led Los Angeles with 23 points. Nneka Ogwumike added 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Sparks ended a six-game losing streak and improved to 11-17.
Portland received 24 points and 11 rebounds from Bridget Carleton, but late turnovers and Los Angeles free throws helped the Sparks secure the victory. The Fire fell to 11-19.
Los Angeles shot efficiently from outside and repeatedly found answers when Portland threatened to take control. The Fire erased an early deficit with a 16-0 run, and the lead changed hands several times during the closing minutes.
The victory came on the same day Los Angeles completed a blockbuster trade sending five-time All-Star Kelsey Plum to the Phoenix Mercury. The Sparks received Monique Akoa Makani and future draft picks in the deal.
The trade signals that Los Angeles is thinking beyond the current standings, but Sunday’s win showed that the remaining roster is not surrendering the season quietly.
Wings Use Third-Quarter Run to Defeat Connecticut
The Dallas Wings pulled away from the Connecticut Sun for an 83-63 victory.
Jessica Shepard and Arike Ogunbowale scored 15 points apiece for Dallas. The Wings closed the third quarter with a decisive 20-2 run, turning what had been a competitive game into a comfortable win.
Dallas improved to 19-11 and remains firmly involved in the postseason race. Connecticut fell to 7-23.
The final score was shaped less by one explosive individual performance than by Dallas’ ability to generate contributions across the roster. Connecticut struggled to respond once the Wings increased their defensive pressure and accelerated the game late in the third quarter.
For Dallas, the victory was also an important response after Friday’s 81-75 loss to Washington. The Wings have enough talent to compete with the league’s strongest teams, but consistency will determine how high they can climb before the playoffs.
Valkyries Pull Away From Toronto
The Golden State Valkyries defeated the Toronto Tempo 96-79, improving to 20-9.
Janelle Salaün came off the bench to score 24 points, while Veronica Burton contributed 17 points and six assists. Golden State used a strong second half and tightened its defense as the game progressed.
Toronto fell to 10-19.
The performance was a reminder of Golden State’s depth. The Valkyries did not need every point to come from their starting lineup, and Salaün’s bench production gave the offense a different gear.
Golden State recently experienced a brief slide after a nine-game winning streak, but head coach Natalie Nakase has publicly expressed confidence in the team’s depth and chemistry. The organization decided not to make a major move before Sunday’s trade deadline.
That decision places the responsibility on the existing roster to prove it already contains enough scoring, defense and versatility for a serious postseason run.

Las Vegas Aces at Atlanta Dream
Tipoff: 6 p.m. CT
This is Monday’s strongest matchup on paper.
Las Vegas enters at 20-9 after suffering an 84-83 loss to the Chicago Sky on Saturday. Sydney Taylor hit a three-pointer with 0.9 seconds remaining to complete Chicago’s upset.
Atlanta is 18-10 and has won five consecutive games. The Dream most recently defeated Seattle 98-89 and have established themselves as one of the league’s most dangerous comeback teams.
The key question is whether the Aces can finish possessions and protect a late lead. Las Vegas still owns one of the league’s most talented rosters, led by A’ja Wilson, but Atlanta has built confidence through close games and fourth-quarter rallies.
The Dream nearly defeated the Aces in their first meeting of the season, losing 85-84 after recovering from a slow start. Monday gives Atlanta another opportunity to measure its progress against an established championship contender.
Seattle Storm at New York Liberty
Tipoff: 6 p.m. CT
The New York Liberty return home after defeating the Phoenix Mercury 94-92 on Saturday.
Sabrina Ionescu scored 27 points in that victory. New York enters Monday at 17-13, while Seattle is 6-25 and attempting to end an extended losing streak.
The standings favor New York, but the Liberty have not played with championship-level consistency throughout the season. They have alternated impressive offensive performances with games in which their defensive execution and late-game decision-making have slipped.
Seattle’s record leaves little margin for error. The Storm need improved defense and a more efficient offense to prevent New York from controlling the game through its perimeter shooting.
For the Liberty, the matchup represents an opportunity to build momentum before facing Seattle again Wednesday at Barclays Center.
Phoenix Mercury at Chicago Sky
Tipoff: 8 p.m. CT
Phoenix and Chicago meet in a game carrying more intrigue than their records might suggest.
The Mercury enter at 11-19, while the Sky are 11-18. Chicago is coming off its dramatic one-point victory over Las Vegas, powered by Sydney Taylor’s 29-point performance and late game-winner.
Phoenix, meanwhile, is adjusting after acquiring Kelsey Plum from Los Angeles. Plum has averaged 23.9 points and 6.4 assists in the games she has played this season, but leg injuries have limited her availability.
It was not immediately clear Monday morning whether Plum would make her Mercury debut against Chicago.
Even without certainty surrounding Plum’s availability, the trade changes the direction of Phoenix’s season. The Mercury added a proven scorer and playmaker, but they must quickly integrate her into a roster fighting to climb back into the postseason picture.
Chicago will try to carry the confidence generated by Saturday’s upset. Taylor’s emergence has given the Sky another scoring option and one of the league’s most unexpected rookie stories.
