According to police, one man died in a crash leaving a 6-year-old boy in critical condition on the Northwest Side Saturday night.

The incident occurred at 5555 De Zavala Road around 9:07 p.m.

Officials say a vehicle was driving at a high speed on the eastbound lanes of De Zavala Road, lost control and rear-ended another vehicle.

The vehicle spun out of control and hit another vehicle traveling in the westbound lane, police say.

The driver was a male in his early 20s and died at the scene. The driver also had a 6-year-old boy in the car who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The other vehicle involved three victims who were taken to University Hospital in critical condition.

The westbound lanes of De Zavala were shut down for several hours as authorities processed the scene.
