Almost a week after the Biden administration announced the distribution of 400 million free N95 masks to the public to combat COVID-19 surges, the protective coverings are beginning to arrive at some local pharmacies. In San Antonio, retail institutions participating in the national push include H-E-B pharmacies, CVS, and Walgreens.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, every person is entitled to three free masks, depending on availability.

“As part of a nationwide federal program, H-E-B Pharmacy locations are authorized to distribute N95 masks (respirators) to individuals at no cost,” reads a statement from H-E-B.

So when can you receive your H-E-B pharmacy N95? In some neighborhoods, they are already available.

“Some of our H-E-B Pharmacy locations will begin receiving masks as early as today,” an H-E-B representative told MySA on Friday, January 28. With shipment delays varying, those interested in receiving N95 masks may consider calling their pharmacy ahead of time. Unlike the government-issued COVID tests, which you have to order online through the U.S. Postal Service, these masks are available for pick-up onsite. Just inquire at the pharmacy desk.
